Research agreement between CEND and Mondino Institute
CEND and the Neurological Institute Casimiro Mondino have recently started their collaborative research activities, after some research projects, cooperatively submitted, were successfully funded. The projects deal with classical themes of CEND activity, like neurodegeneration and neuroinflammation. In particular, one of the projects (team leaders Professors Roberto Melcangi and Elisabetta Vegeto) will try and explain whether neuroactive steroids influence the inflammatory response of the brain that is associated to neurodegerative diseases (like Parkinson’s disease) and whether a gender effect exists; another project (team leader Prof. Angelo Poletti) will analyse the roles of two discrete intracellular pathways on the regulation of intracellular levels of mutant SOD1 and on its selective toxicity on motoneurons; the third project (team leader Prof. Roberto Maggi) will investigate whether the lack of dystrophin, which is responsible for the occurrence of Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), may affect neuronal survival, migration and differentiation, as well as axonal growth, and cytoscheletal rearrangement, to better understand the nature of the neurological symptoms associated to DMD.
4th International Society for Neurochemistry Special Neurochemistry Conference
"Membrane domains in CNS physiology and pathology" - May 22-26, 2010
Prof. Sandro Sonnino and Prof. Alessandro Prinetti, from CEND, have been recently selected to organize the 4th ISN Special Neurochemistry Conference in 2010, together with Prof. Anthony J. Turner and Dr. Natalia N. Nalivaeva from the University of Leeds.
The conference will be held at the "Ettore Majorana" International Centre for Scientific Culture in Erice (Trapani, Italy) on May 22-26, 2010.
