Paolo Milani is Full Professor at the Department of Physics of the University of Milano.
He graduated in Physics at the University of Pavia (Italy) in 1984 and he has received the degree of Docteur es Sciences in 1991 from the Ecole Polytechnique Federale of Lausanne (CH).
He is conducting researches on cluster-assembled nanostructured materials and in particular on carbon-based and transition metal oxides systems. He is also active in the field of NanoMedicine.
He is currently serving as Director of the Nanostructured Material Development Center, Dalmine Technology Park (Bergamo, Italy) and of the Interdisciplinary Centre of Nanostructured Materials and Interfaces of the University of Milano. He has published more than 100 papers on refereed journals, several review papers and he holds four patents in the field of cluster-assembled materials. He is co-author of a monograph on supersonic cluster beam deposition for the synthesis of nanostructured thin films and co-editor of a book on nanostructured carbon for advanced applications. He is member of the Editorial Board of the Encyclopedia of Nanotechnology of the American Scientific Publishers Association and of the Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology.
In 2000 he has received the "U. Campisano" award from the Italian Institute for the Physics of Matter for his outstanding contributions to the synthesis and characterization of nanostructured materials.
He is member of the scientific committee of the "L. Da Vinci" Museum of Science and Technology in Milano and of the direction board of the Italian Federation of Scientific and Technical Associations (FAST).
He is serving as expert in the field of nanotechnology for the European Social and Economic Committee of the European Community. He is co-founder and Scientific Director of the start-up company Tethis s.r.l.
