Prof. Paolo Milani
Paolo Milani is Full Professor at the Department of Physics of the University of Milano.
He graduated in Physics at the University of Pavia (Italy) in 1984 and he has received the degree of Docteur es Sciences (PhD) in 1991 from the Ecole Polytechnique Federale of Lausanne (CH). In 1992 he founded the Molecular Beams and Nanocrystalline Materials Laboratory at the University of Milano.
He is conducting researches on cluster-assembled nanostructured materials and in particular on carbon-based and transition metal oxides systems.
He is also active in the field of nanostructured materials for energy production and storage and for nanomedicine. On these subjects he published more than 150 papers on refereed journals and several review papers. He is co-author of a monography on supersonic cluster beam deposition for the synthesis of nanostructured thin films.
He is currently serving as Director of the Interdisciplinary Centre for Nanostructured Materials and Interfaces of the University of Milano and as Coordinator of the PhD School in Medical Nanotechnology supported by the European School of Molecular Medicine and the University of Milano. He is member of the Scientific Committee of the National Museum of Science and Technology “L. da Vinci” in Milano.
He has served as an expert in the field of nanotechnology for the European Social and Economic Committee of the European Union.
He is Editor of the Springer book series “Carbon Materials Chemistry and Physics”, Regional Editor of the Journal of Nanoparticle Research and member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, of the Open Biomedical Engineering Journal and of Research Letters in Nanotechnology.
In 2000 he received the “U. Campisano” award from the Italian Institute for the Physics of Matter for his contributions to field of the synthesis and characterization of nanostructured materials. In 2006 he received the “L. Tartufari” prize awarded by the Lincei National Academy.
He holds six patents and he is co-founder and president of the start-up company Tethis active in the field of nanostructured systems for chemical sensing and biomedical microdevices.
