About Me
Born in 1966
Geologist since 1990
PhD in 1994
Career
From 1996 to 2002 at the Geological Survey of Regione Lombardia, as field geologist involved in the survey of different sheets of the new geological map of Italy. In those years, I also joined the team that defined the Geological GIS of Regione Lombardia.
From 2002 researcher and then professor at the Earth Sciences Department “A. Desio” of the University of Milano.
Research
Stratigraphy, sedimentology, basin analysis and geological mapping. Field work in the Himalayas, Southern Alps, Central Alps, Austria, Cabo Verde, Iran, Sardinia & Corsica
Teaching
Courses for Bachelor and MSc students: at present Basin Anayses, Sedimentary geology and Geological mapping, in the past also Sedimentology, Stratigraphy, GIS.

Research
I am currently working mostly on the following subjects, but also on other topics that are not described here, including geological mapping, diagenesis, 3d modelling, basin analysis and seismic interpretation. See also the list of my publications for more information about my research interests
MEBE and Darius Programme
From 2003. The research focused on the multi-stage evolution of the Alborz chain, outlining time and significance of different events related to the Cimmerian Orogeny. In Central Iran, the research was mainly focused on the Triassic succession of Nakhlak. At present we are working in Eastern and Central Iran, on geological topics related to the Cimmerian Orogeny and later events (Cretaceous).
Carbonate sedimentology and modelling
At present I mainly work on the stratigrapic evolution of the Ladinian and Norian-Rhaetian successions of the Southern Alps, also producing 3D and forward models, constrained by field data (geometry, facies distribution and diagenesis). I also collaborate to studies on the Jurassic-Cretaceous succession of Sardinia.
Permian extensional basins of the Southern Alps
The research is focused on the study of the sedimentology and depositional architecture of Lower Permian continental deposits in fault-controlled basins of the Southern Alps. The project aims at the identification of the effects of the interplay between tectonic and sedimentation, mainly in terms of lateral and vertical distribution of the facies.
