Aims of the workshop:

IWIC-I was the first workshop entirely devoted to ice caves research. IWIC offer a place to point out the state of art, to discuss ongoing research efforts, to boost international cooperation. IWIC-I was an ideal opportunity to widen the availability among the interested audience of important research results formerly published only in non-English papers.

The contributions was related to any aspect of ice cave research, and particularly:

- Ice caves climatology and the relations between hypogean and epigean environments
- Morphology and mass balances of cave ice deposits
- Stratigraphy and internal structure of hypogean ice deposits
- Ice sampling methods
- Cave ice crystal fabric
- Chemical and isotopical studies on cave ice and its fluid inclusions
- Applications of radiometric methods
- Palinology, dendrochronology and other biology-related studies applied to ice caves research

Duration of Workshop:

February 29 - March 3, 2004. The day followed to the contributions presentation session there was a field excursion to the Ghetarul de la Scarisoara, one of the most documented ice caves in the world.


Conference Place:

Scientific meeting taked place at Capus, 25 km west of Cluj.

 

Contributed Papers:

The abstracts, extended abstracts and full papers will be published in a special issue of Theoretical and Applied Karstology.
