Above all, Alcorn is remembered for the contribution he gave to the revolutionary change in the world of publishing, in particular in the styling of books, that occurred in the 1970s. He started designing book covers early in his career and stood out as a graphic designer and illustrator for the numerous book jackets he created for several leading East Coast publishers. Although the variety of the projects commissioned, in the years he developed a very personal style that made him recognizable and popular.

In particular, Alcorn’s touch was determinant to change the idea of book cover in Italy. When he started to work for Rizzoli in 1973, he was involved in the relaunch of the editorial house’s collections and completely transformed its graphic style. In a short time it passed from sober and monochromatic covers to little examples of everyday art, with multicolored drawings that mixed creative lines, correlation with the content of the book and typographic elaboration.

Besides book covers, Alcorn realized several album covers and covers for magazines of various genres.
