Focus on renewable resources
A green and sustainable economy needs a revolutionary change in the use of raw materials, to overcome today’s dependency on fossil fuels. Every year about 170 x 109 metric tons biomass are produced by nature, of which only 3.5 % are utilized by mankind. The PackLAB activities in this sector aims to extract renewable interesting materials from raw vegetable sources or from industrial byproduct. The two type of ongoing activities are the production of cellulosic nanomaterials and the extraction of active substances like antimicrobials or antioxidants, both from vegetable sources.
