Thomas Lenk is Professor of Public Finance for over 20 years and since 2011 Vice-Rector for Development and Transfer at Leipzig University. The areas of emphasis in teaching are, of course, public finance and fiscal policy. However, his courses for master students regularly include practice- and interdisciplinary-oriented seminars on current issues as well as to questions of quality, delivery and financing of SGEI. Frequently, high-ranking participants from business, politics and society are invited as guest lecturers.
His research emphases at the Institute are fiscal federalism and municipal finance as well as public economy (e.g. SGI, European competition, public enterprises, Public-Private-Partnerships).
Beyond that, he is active as consultant and expert in public consultations and hearings (Committees of the German Bundestag and Bundesrat, Committees of several German state parliaments as well as for municipalities and Central Associations of municipalities.
