Andrea Gazzaniga


After graduating at the University of Pavia in 1975, he served as an assistant professor at the same university. In 1986 he attended as a visiting researcher the School of Pharmacy of the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and in the same year he joined the University of Milan, where he is presently Full Professor of Pharmaceutical Technology and Biopharmaceutics. He has published more than 150 research papers on international journals, about 200 extended abstracts on peer reviewed congress proceedings and a number of patents in the technological area. He has also given several oral presentations, mostly as an invited speaker. His current research interests include the design and preparation of oral solid dosage forms, in particular of drug delivery systems for prolonged, pulsatile and colon-specific release, the characterization of drug-cyclodextrins interaction compounds and use of cyclodextrins as active excipients, and the study and evaluation of generic drug products. Besides acting as a consultant and referee for pharmaceutical companies and regulatory agencies, he is an official expert for European Pharmacopoeia, being appointed to group 12 (Galenical Products). He has been elected Fellow of American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) and he is a member of the advisory board of the scientific and professional societies Italian Association of Pharmaceutical Technology Teachers (ADRITELF), Italian Association of Industrial Pharmacists (AFI), and Consortium of Italian Universities (TEFARCO Innova).
