John Alcorn started his career in the field of advertising and continued designing posters and commercial ads for his whole life. His witty touch and personal sensibility come through every one of his countless creation, each realized combining the feeling of the prevailing modes of the times with a style tailored to suit the particular needs of the assignment.

Because Alcorn was a self-proclaimed commercial artist, the vast majority of his works was on commission. From the first formative years at the Push Pin Studios and the fruitful period at CBS up to the freelance works – which he found more interesting than the corporate work – he gradually became more selective in taking jobs, but never lost his innate passion for visual communication.

The challenge to capture people’s attention accompanied him in all his works. The deadline-driven commercial world and the increasingly swift rhythms of the burgeoning print media to which he found himself drawn required that he conceive images and graphic design solutions capable of being observed and appreciated by an audience perpetually on the move.
